The battle between Nike and Adidas for sneaker supremacy has resulted in a great 2018 (Q1) with both companies releasing products that the consumers want. Nike/Jordan Brand started 2018 with a full head of steam. Jordan reached into their sneaker archive and released classics like the Jordan 3 OG Black Cement and the Jordan 1 High OG Shadow. The leather quality on both pairs is top notch for a general release so expect these sneakers to age like a fine wine.
In addition to Jordan re-releasing classics, Jordan and Nike have paired up with one of the hottest fashion designers in the world Virgil Abloh and his brand Off White. Abloh was the mastermind behind some the most hype releases of the year including the Moma Nike Air Force 1, Jordan 1 x Off White, and Nike Vapormax. All of his Off White x Nike collabs were very limited, with the Moma Air Force 1 being the most limited of them all only releasing at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
Rounding out the top 10 is the other sneaker goliath Adidas. Adidas continues to create a huge amount of buzz by collaborating with the popular musicians like Kanye West and Pharrell Williams. Although the Yeezy line slowed down quite a bit since 2017 every release has sold out within days. Kanye West is riding the 90's "dad shoe" wave by putting a chunky midsole on the 500's and 700's. New Yeezy silhouettes like the Powerphase, Wave Runner 700, and 500 are not catching on like its predecessor the Yeezy Boost 350.
We are only a quarter of the way into the year and have already seen tons of dope sneakers. It will be interesting to see what Nike and Adidas have in store for the rest of the year. Below is a list of the top 10 sneakers of 2018 quarter 1. Factors taken into consideration when preparing the list include popularity and resell value.
